Decaffeinated or Uncaffeinated?

Coffee, as we all know, contains caffeine and there are a large number of people who are sensitive to it, or who simply want to avoid it because it is a stimulant.

An uncaffeinated drink is one that is naturally free of caffeine while a decaffeinated drink is one that requires a chemical process to remove the caffeine. This chemical process involves an unhealthy solvent called trichlorethylene. Most natural health practioners think that a little caffeine is probably better than ingesting the solvent.

The best option is to choose a natural product which is uncaffeinated such as Red bush tea (rooibos pronounced roy-boss) which comes from South Africa and is also low in tannins. Another substitute is an organic chicory product called Bambu made to the recipe of the late Swiss doctor Alfred Vogel. Bambu can also successfully be used in recipes which call for a coffee taste, like tiramisu. There are also several coffee substitute products made from barley which are available in health food shops. The other alternative is of course to switch to the many herbal teas now freely available.
